DOPPELCAM is a digital camera that only displays images ‘visually similar’ to those taken with it. It sends the source photo through an image-drop search engine and displays the top result.

SKY VIEW

SKY VIEW

SKY VIEW uses your current location to display the sky above you. As you move with it, the sky view changes accordingly.

This project inputs the users coordinates into Google Street View’s api and changes the camera angle parameter to always be pointing directly up. It also orients the camera in the direction the user is heading. IMG_5856

Sky views tend to be more glitchy than street views. Less attention is paid to them.

TINDER IN THE MIDDLE

By Leon Eckert and Melanie Hoffsidebyside

Tinder in the Middle is a man-in-the-middle attack using Tinder. The messages Melanie receives from male matches are the messages Leon writes to female matches and vice versa.

We pair our matches up and they carry out conversations through us.tinder-diagram

TELL ME WHAT TO SAY TO STRANGERS

Each kind of public space creates a particular environment in which different forms of interaction are facilitated. This project allows for interactions between strangers in one public space to inform the interactions between strangers in another. Here I become a communication link between two distinct kinds of public space. The face-to-face urban environment of Washington Square Park and the relatively anonymous online space of Periscope.

The video interviews were conducted by recording my phone’s screen while posing the question to strangers on the livestreaming app, Periscope. They could not see me.

Asking a child to represent themselves publicly with less than 20 characters yields varied and often deeply personal stories.

I’m interested in the motivations behind creating online identities both in the past and now. In the late 90’s creating an online identity or screen name meant something very different than it does now. Today, one’s online identity becomes fused to their personhood. The sense of freedom and exploration I felt in the online chatrooms of my childhood has fallen out of focus.
